Description:
The Live Streaming Director is responsible for directing and producing high-quality, multi-camera live broadcasts of Southern Utah University events for distribution on the University's official YouTube channels and other digital streaming platforms. This position oversees all technical aspects of live productions, including camera direction, shot composition, switching, graphics coordination, and communication with production crew members to ensure professional broadcasts. The Live Streaming Director also supervises camera operators and other production personnel during live events while maintaining broadcast quality standards and ensuring smooth execution from pre-production through event completion. At times, this position will also assist the SUUTV Thundervision Crew with SUU athletic events as a producer or technical director.
Responsibilities:
- Direct multi-camera live broadcasts of university events, including academic ceremonies, performances, lectures, athletics, conferences, and special events.
- Operate live production equipment including video switchers, graphics systems, replay systems (when applicable), and audio monitoring equipment.
- Supervise and direct camera operators during live productions, providing clear communication and shot assignments throughout each event.
- Coordinate with producers, event organizers, and technical staff to develop production plans and broadcast workflows.
- Ensure broadcasts meet university quality standards for video, audio, graphics, and overall presentation.
- Conduct pre-production meetings with camera crews to review camera positions, shot expectations, production schedules, and event-specific requirements.
- Monitor broadcast quality during live productions and make real-time decisions to maintain professional production standards.
- Assist in the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of production equipment prior to events.
- Maintain effective communication with production staff using intercom systems and other production communication tools.
- Train student camera operators and production assistants on proper camera operation, framing, movement, and production techniques.
- Assist in developing production workflows and operational procedures to improve broadcast efficiency and consistency.
- Perform basic maintenance and organization of production equipment and report equipment issues to appropriate personnel.
- Work collaboratively with university departments to ensure successful live event coverage.

Qualifications:
- Experience directing live multi-camera video productions: event broadcasts or live sports.
- Working knowledge of broadcast production equipment, including video switchers, cameras, audio systems, graphics systems, and streaming technologies.
- Experience with Blackmagic ATEM, Ross, TriCaster, or similar live production systems.
- Familiarity with YouTube Live, livestream encoding, and digital streaming workflows.
- Experience supervising or training student employees.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills with the ability to effectively direct production crews in a live environment.
- Ability to make quick decisions under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and irregular schedules based on university event calendars.
- Knowledge of broadcast graphics systems and replay technology.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during live productions.
- Ability to lift and move production equipment weighing up to 30–50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access camera platforms as needed.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor venues under varying weather conditions.
- Position requires frequent evening, weekend, and holiday work depending on university event schedules.
- Must be available to work during the Fall semester, over holiday break from 12/15/26 through 1/15/27 and during Spring semester (also during Fall and Spring breaks).
